Smashed it!

Instance:

I had a solid night's sleep - no doubt helped by having an actual bed rather than a sleeping mat that deflates itself during the night!

Anyway, I said my good-byes to my hosts and headed off into a promising looking (weather wise) morning.

For some reason I was a little bit apprehensive about today. I was worried I wouldn't be able to make a suitable distance to put me within striking distance of Newport Pagnal - my next stop tomorrow at Clint and Dawn's.

I needn't have worried. People often describe the Cotswolds as "Hilly". Nonsense! Compared to Wales it's the flatlands! I was absolutely hammering it along. The miles were ticking by and I was gaining elevation without even noticing it. Sure, there was the odd hill, but I was seeing them off no bother.

I stopped in Malmsbury at an actually open co-op for some supplies. Whilst I was paying I noticed a bloke taking pictures of my bike!

I went out and chatted to him for a bit. Turns out he was a keen cycle tourer too. Bit weird taking pictures of other people's bikes though!

After that it was just ticking off each town on the route. It rained for a little bit, but nothing too troublesome. It was pretty warm and sunny for most of the day.

I passed quickly through the mega touristy places like Bourton on the Water, the Slaughters and Stowe on the Wolds etc. They were all heaving!

My distance was good and I found a campsite a few more miles away. There was no number to call so I just turned up then booked a pitch online. I did eventually meet the owner who was very friendly.

The campsite is in the grounds of a former Norman castle. There are some remsins in the field I'm in, but it just looks like a bunch of big stones they've arranged.

So all in all, a good day!

Thanks for Father's Day Card, Rob. As usual on concert day I had a busy day, We had a bar set up in the Church for post-concert refreshments so I was pretty late getting home. Slow start to today, but must get going on money counting See you soon

Lovely views. Is there some kind of old car convention going on? Finlay is currently near Malmsbury for a festival - did you hear it?! I agree those stones don’t look much like a Norman castle! They’re not even the right colour - I thought the Normans built all their castles from Caen stone. That’s what the displays at Norwich castle say anyway!

I think people just like driving their classic cars around the Cotswolds! Didn't see anything about a festival, but did see a village fête. They were calling the raffle as I went past!
