A nice dry start to the day enabled me to get my tent dry in the morning sun. Not that the sun is particularly warm at 7 am!
So I was a little later setting off, but was away before 8.
I stopped in Knighton for a coffee and supplies and headed off into the hills.
I knew that there were a series of fairly hefty climbs. There were 4 or 5 going over 1,000 feet. Although it's so up and down between them, you never really know when you're done. What I did know was that the top of the last one was at exactly 35 miles.
That was an incredibly long 35 miles! Took an age to get over them all. But once done it was pretty flat.
There was a lot of great scenery, but quite hard to photograph as it's all big open views. Well, hard for me as I know nothing about photography!
The next 20 miles went by pretty quickly, but it was getting well into the afternoon by this point, so I needed to find a campsite. This was a bit of a pain as they were all either too close or too far!
I would have happily carried on, but didn't want to leave myself short of time in the evening. So I went into the nearest town and stocked up on supplies before heading to a campsite that had decent reviews. No phone number or website, so I just turned up. Actually, that makes it sound simple - it wasn't as it was at the top of an incredibly steep hill!
Anyway, the site is very basic, but has everything you'd need. It's main selling point is the Incredible view. Not for the first time, I am the only one here!
I pitched up, had a shower, cooked dinner and settled down to write this. Then I checked the weather forecast. Rain all night. And heavy too! This was not good seeing as I'd only just got all my stuff dry.
As luck would have it, the owner came over and suggested I sleep in this hut thing. It's just a little shed really with games and stuff. But it's plenty big enough and I needed no persuading!
So I moved my stuff in and packed my lovely dry tent up.
I'll be out of the rain and my bike is under cover too. All ready for a quick get away in the morning. Assuming it's not so wet that I don't want to leave!
Apart from the weather, I'm looking forward to tomorrow. A change of scenery and much flatter, so I should be able to batter out some miles . I'm a little behind schedule, but a couple of longer days will see me back on track.
