To The Coast!

Instance:

So, you may recall that last night I slept in a little hut to avoid the rain? I found out at about 4am that said hut leaks!

I spent about an hour hunting down the holes in the roof and moving all my stuff to avoid them.

In the end I got back to sleep, but subsequently slept in a bit. But no matter - I had hardly any packing up to do!

So I hit the road some time after 8. It was raining on and off, but nothing too bad.

I was soon on the canal path which was a nice change.

I had a sneaking suspicion I would see the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct which was quite exciting. I've seen quite a bit about it in the last year, as some major refurbishment work was carried out .

What I didn't realise was that I was going to cross it! The towpath is very narrow, so I carefully pushed my bike over trying not to slip into the canal!

After all that excitement, I stopped for a coffee and a bite to eat as a late breakfast.

Then I pushed on through to Wrexham before eventually hitting the River Dee. There is a cycle path alongside. It is dead straight, dead flat and goes on for miles. Another nice change of scenery though.

At the end of the river was obviously the coast. So I made my way westward following a cycle route (NCN5 I think) It took me inland for a while and up a ridiculously steep hill. Had to push for a bit as the wet, mangled road surface meant my back wheel kept spinning!

It was then back down to join the coast again. Here I followed the path right along the beaches for miles. It was into a brutal headwind though!

I'd phoned a campsite and they said I could turn up whenever, so I stopped and got fish and chips.

All the towns along this coast seem much like seaside towns in a lot of areas - run down and a bit depressing!

Anyway, my campsite is inland a bit - at the top of a massive hill, obviously - and is very nice.

It's not raining at the moment, but it almost certainly will be later. Hopefully not too hard or for too long!

I've always wanted to visit the aqueduct, but wondered if I tried it I would have a vertigo attack!. I probably would. When it was built they must have had horses towing the barges. I wonder if many fell in? Dad

Great aqueduct! Looks like you’ve got the campsite to yourself again tonight?

There's nobody else in the field I'm in, but there are a few others in the other fields. It's a very spacious campsite. And they have a nice cat 🐱
