A Good Day!

Instance:

I slept pretty well despite the on off rain throughout the night. When I got up, the good news was that the rain was easing off and the better news was that my ageing tent had coped admirably with said rain!

I managed to get away a bit earlier than the last few days. I was also right on route so I made good progress early on with little faffing.

Getting breakfast was a bit of a faff though as the place I'd seen wasn't open yet. So I detoured slightly to another shop and got some much needed hot food. A sausage roll and a bacon and cheese turnover.

After that I follower the NCN route towards

Porthmadog, which was really nice. The weather was clearing up properly and it was turning into a really nice day. Actually, it would normally be considered a bang average day, but compared to recent days it was glorious!

There were plenty of great views along the coast and my next town was Harlech. I went straight through and decided to start using the main road. This was a good plan. It was flatter and faster and probably afforded better views than the back roads as it was more open. Plus there was hardly any traffic anyway.

I got to Barmouth which was really busy. I guess it is the weekend. So over the old bridge I went. It's a lot more rickety than I remember!

The miles were really starting to tick by now and I realised I'd be able to achieve an acceptable mileage and be able to stop a bit earlier. An earlier finish would mean I had more time to do chores like washing and charging batteries. Of course, I needed a campsite that had the requisite facilities and as luck would have it, there was one nearby. Plenty of up and down to get there mind.

As the sun was making the odd appearance, I let my tent dry out before pitching it. I then had a nice hot shower and am currently waiting for my washing to finish.

The forecast looks ok for the next few days - just showery stuff rather than full on downpours which is fine.

Progress is good and hopefully I can get away early again tomorrow to batter out some more miles.

The beaches look lovely - have you been tempted to have a dip in the sea? Good to hear the weather is improving.

I might be tempted if the weather resembled summer!
