A Long Day!

Instance:

I woke up super early this morning. The birds were especially vociferous, so I decided I might as well get up.

I was on the road by around half six, which is my best effort on this tour so far.

I really wanted to get right down to St Davids today, but I wasn't sure if that was going to be possible. I knew there were a lot of hills involved. Also the ever present headwind was in full force again.

The first big town to get to, where I could gauge my progress, was Cardigan. However, I had a number of smaller towns to tick off on the way.

I was making pretty good progress. Even after detouring up a massive hill to get to the only shop that was open. Only it wasn't open as it was closed for refurbishment!

No matter, I saw a petrol station just down the road with a shop. The only problem being that when I got there, there was a sign on the door saying "Back in 15 mins". I guess that's rural Wales for you! Well I couldn't be bothered to wait, so I carried on.

The weather was dry if a little cold as I continued along a combination of route 82 and the main road.

I eventually stocked up on food and made it to Cardigan. It was still early, but it had taken me 4 hours!

I was somewhat horrified when I saw how far it was to St Davids and I toyed with the idea of cutting out the south west peninsula, but decided that was unacceptable. I was going to St Davids and that was that!

So, it was head down and into the wind. For hours I ploded along ticking off the towns - Newport, Fishguard and then the final long stint. Eventually I made it. It wasn't even late!

I found the perfect csmpsite a few miles further on near Solva.

As it happens, the book I'm currently reading is set around here. In the book there's been a murder at Solva beach. And that's exactly where I am now - in a pub waiting for a well earned pub meal!

Definitely the most satisfying day of the tour so far.

All looks good. Did your pub have tv showing Wales Belgium game? V good match, Wales went 3 nil down, clawed back to 3 3, but late goal gave Belgium the result 4 - 3

Impressive progress! The Pembrokeshire coast is stunning. I see you went through Newport today - we stayed in a caravan there in 2001. Hope you enjoyed your dinner - it looks good!

118k! That is really good going. I'd heard that part of Wales is beautiful and it looks it. I've never been as it's absolutely miles from even here! Pub dinner looks great, well deserved!
