At Last Some Sun!

Instance:

It was very windy when I went to bed, but what it did during the night, I don't know as I slept like a log. I have a vague recollection of it raining, but I might have dreamt that!

Anyway, it was dry in the morning, although quite misty with very heavy skies.

I got on my way promptly heading along NCN4 now. It was very quiet - just the odd farmer bimbling around. I got onto a fast road with a dedicated cycle lane running alongside. I made good progress before stopping at a garage in the middle of nowhere for a coffee and a breakfast muffin thing.

The next town of any note was Haverfordwest. The cycle lane continued through the town (well, sort of around so I didn't see much!) and I was soon out the other side.

At this point it started raining. Not particularly hard, but enough to be bothersome. Fortunately, it didn't last long and I soon dried off.

Next up I crossed over the big bridge near Pembroke, before heading east with the hope of a tailwind. Of course, now I'm heading in the right direction, the wind has dropped!

I made my way back to the coast at Saundersfoot, which was really nice. It was at this point that I noticed that I was getting really hot! It was warming up nicely and I was down to just a short sleeved jersey for the first time since day 1!

There were some pretty brutal up and downs and I had my eye on getting past Carmarthen. I even had a couple of potential campsites lined up. But I was going to have to get a move on if I wanted any decent downtime in the evening.

Getting through Carmarthen was fairly painless. I phoned my preferred campsite only to be told they don't take one night bookings. I couldn't be bothered to argue that their website clearly states otherwise!

So I had to try another. I found one I'd missed earlier and the bloke couldn't have been more friendly. He told me to turn up whenever I liked. So I did. Quite some time later due to the obligatory massive hill to end the day!

The site is really nice. Very spacious with a nice view of the sea.

There's a little supermarket just down the road, so I grabbed a load of food. I toyed with the idea of a pub dinner again, but the local pub looks a bit rough and has got comically bad reviews online!

I'm now sitting at my own personal picnic table enjoying the last of the evening sun. A first for this trip!

The forecast for tomorrow is good, so I'll be continuing eastwards in sunshine again.

Amazing scenery and beaches. I wonder if in a few weeks time they will be overwhelmed by hardy Welsh families on holiday? Is it very commercialised?

I reckon it will get quite busy. Already some early season holidaymakers around.

Finally decent weather. That small tunnel looks cool. I went to Saundersfoot when I was about 10, I remember it being nice! You must be getting to the Gower soon?

Yes, but I'll probably just have a little look rather than going all the way around
