More hills

Instance:

Although it hadn't rained in the night, everything was very damp this morning. I let everything dry out for a bit before heading off as the forecast for later on today ie when I'd be pitching my tent again - was not good!

So I set off soon after 7 - still pretty early and headed towards Hebdon Bridge. What I thought would be a quick blast actually took hours! The reason? Hills. Big ones. And lots of them!

It was a real grind but I made it in the end and hit the co-op for the usual breakfast stuff! Just regular PACs today rather than jammy ones.

Leaving Hebdon Bridge was a bit of a faff as I ended up following a route on my GPS that I shouldn't have had displayed. Ended up going up an insanely steep cobbled climb up to a campsite I had penciled in but obviously never stayed at!

Turning around, I got back on track and continued my slow but steady progress.

Although there were no really long climbs today, I'd say it was the toughest hill wise. They were relentless! And often ridiculously steep.

I stopped in Slaithwaite for lunch at a really nice deli place, then had to start thinking about where to stay. Very heavy rain was forecast for 5pm onwards for a few hours, so I wanted to set up before then.

I found a campsite that really wasn't far away, but it took a herculean effort to get there. Of course it was at the top of a massive hill! And there were loads of massive hills on the way too!

It's just south of Holmefirth and the views from my pitch are fantastic.

It's only about a mile and a half down some very steep footpaths into town, so I walked down to get some supplies and some dinner.

I thought about a pub, but it would seem most places here don't open on Tuesdays. There are a few places open, but they all look a bit poncey.

Anyway, I got a pizza from some shabby takeaway place and it was perfect!

As soon as I started walking back to the campsite, the rain finally came. Got drenched. Now sheltering in my tent waiting for it to pass.

Unsurprisingly, tomorrow includes.... More hills!
