Day 30

I got up at the usual time and was all ready to go by half 8 only reception didn't open until 9 and I needed to pay as it was shut last night when I arrived!

Obviously it wasn't until about 9:15 that they finally decided to open up, so I was a bit late getting underway.

I had a feeling today was going to be a shorter one as it was a long way to the next load of campsites, with just one in between.

The weather was the best it has been for a while, so I headed off at a steady pace.

The terrain was pretty similar to yesterday. Only even more extreme. Really long upward drags, but of course long downhills too. This made things pretty slow as of course most of my time was spent going upwards!

One thing I have noticed here is the amount of litter at the side of the road. More often than not empty cans of Jupiler. I'm talking out in open countryside here, so the only way they've got there is out the window of a car. There are signs at regular intervals saying not to throw rubbish out of the window, but those are generally ignored. At one point I saw a giant net thing at the side of the road. It was obviously an attempt to get people to throw their rubbish into that as they passed! Also, judging by the way some people drive, the Jupiler isn't just being consumed by passengers! Wallonia really is a dump compared to Flanders. I could go on, but I'll stop whinging now!

Anyway, I carried on and stopped to get some food. I bought an even longer baguette than the one I bought the other day (which I didn't think would be possible!) and a delicious strawberry tart thing.

I wasn't far from the campsite now, so I headed onto the country lanes, following the dot in my campsite app.

To cut a long story short, the marker was in the wrong place again! Only by a couple of miles this time, but that's enough to stuff you up - especially as the address listed is just the name of the nearest town.

Anyway, I found it eventually and checked in. It's actually one of those ghastly super campsites that's more like some trashy holiday camp. But it will do as I shall be out of here first thing!

Oh, the lady on reception gave me a bag for my rubbish (not had that anywhere else) and surprise surprise, my pitch was littered with all sorts of crap - mostly empty Jupiler cans...

I've had something to eat and have also booked my ferry for Wednesday night.

Just tomorrow and Wednesday to get to Hoek van Holland.

I'll get into Flanders tomorrow morning (hooray!) and then head right up to the Dutch border before camping up.

Pics from yesterday and today uploading...

I put a present in the post to Rob today, 2nd class, so with any luck it'll be there when he gets home!
